White Killer Whale

The rare White Killer Whale was spotted by NOAA scientists on February 23, 2008. The whale was spotted just two miles off the coast of Kanaga Volcano which is part of the Aluetian Island chain. They are often considered to be mythic because they have been rarely seen and rarely scientifically documented. The one spotted on February 23 is not believed to be a true albino because it shows signs of darker pigmentation. They have previously been spotted in the Bering Sea and off the Russian coast. It is unknown if the one spotted near Kanaga Volcano is the same one spotted in the Bering Sea and off of the Russian coastline.
