Background
While little is known of the plot of the forthcoming film, the ten-sentence long book features a young boy named Max, who is sent to bed without any supper for being naughty (he chases his dog with a fork, for instance). While in his room, Max's imagination turns his room into a vast forest on the shore of a giant sea. Max boards a small boat and sails to the land of the Wild Things, where he is eventually crowned King. The book won a Caldecott Medal in 1964, and is widely considered to be one of the best children's books of the 20th century.
Quote
"We had a real kid and a real world, and I think that's sort of where our problem was. In the end they realized the movie is what it is, and there's no real way to... it's sort of like they were expecting a boy and I gave birth to a girl. So they just needed their time to sort that out and figure out how they were going to learn to love their new daughter."—Spike Jones on his relationship with the film studio1
