Slightly Longer Answer:
- According to their FAQ, Veropedia is an online encyclopedia that corrects Wikipedia articles and checks them for factual accuracy, then republishes the corrected articles.
- The purpose of Veropedia is to have an online encyclopedia that can be trusted, particularly for use by students and educators. Additionally, it does away with citations, user notes, and the often heated bickering that is part of the Wikipedia culture.
- Although it is a de facto competitor to Wikipedia, the FAQ claims that since Veropedia's success is dependent on Wikipedia's success, it is not a competitor. Veropedia contributors "prefer to think of ourselves as a meta-layer, highlighting the best that Wikipedia has to offer."
- Founded by Wikipedia veteran Danny Wool, Veropedia is a commercial site. Advertisments can currently be seen on it, but they are not especially prominent or invasive. By contrast, Wikipedia is a non-profit, funded primarily by donations made to the WikiMedia Foundation.
