NFL Career

Wes Welker went undrafted in 2004 and signed as a free agent with the San Diego Chargers. However, he was cut from the team after one game and signed with the Miami Dolphins. Welker was used on special teams for the rest of the season until becoming a backup receiver in 2005. After an impressive 2006 season, Welker was traded to the New England Patriots.

During his first season in New England, Welker became a full-time starter while setting career highs in receiving. Welker finished 2007 with 112 catches for 1,175 yards and eight touchdowns. His 112 receptions tied him with the Bengals' T.J. Houshmandzadeh for most catches during the regular season.¹
