Guide Note
A Japanese company, Genepax, has introduced a car allegedly powered by a "Water Energy System."
The system is reportedly based on a "membrane electrode assembly" which encourages chemical reactions to reduce water to a hydrogen-oxygen fuel mixture.1
Fast Facts
- Introduced by Genepax
- Have refused to reveal the specific details of how the system works2
- Claims system operates in a similar way to a standard Fuel Cell2
- Special "membrane electrode assembly" allows liquid water to be used2
- Several people have criticized the system3
- Critics point out that electrolysis takes the same amount of energy, or more, to produce the fuel as it provides3
- Stan Meyer famously introduced a water powered car in 19904
- Meyer's system was proven to violate the laws of thermodynamics4
