Alternate Ending Controversy
- Near the end of the graphic novel Watchmen, New York City is attacked by a giant monster. According to an interview with director Zack Snyder, posted to the film gossip website Dark Horizons, the monster did not appear in the script for his Watchmen film and was not shot for the movie.6 Instead, the new film will include an original ending that has been described as more "upbeat." 7 The move has upset some fans who, based on early footage and previous interviews with the film's creative team, had expected a thoroughly faithful adaptation of the graphic novel.7

Quotes
"[The film] deconstructs heroes. ... It kind of takes it all the way. How far do you take this superhero thing?... Superman has the ability to go to all the world leaders and say, 'I will kill all of you if you don't behave.' He could do that, but why doesn't he?"—Zack Snyder8
"The Owl Ship's got to have an eight-track. There's also a coffee maker. That's really important to the Owl Ship."—Zack Snyder8
"Will Watchmen be the end of superhero movies? Probably not. But it sure will kick them in the gut."—Zach Snyder9
