Attractions
One of the most popular tourist destinations in the United States is Washington DC. Make plans to see the National Zoological Park where they have 500 species and over 4,000 animals and the best thing is, it's free! Other attractions include the U.S. Capitol, National Aquarium, Kennedy Center, United States Botanic Gardens and don't forget to visit the White House. If you visit Tuesday through Wednesday you can take a tour of the inside for free.
Landmarks
Visit National landmarks such as the Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial. Stop by the Smithsonian Institution and visit museums like the National Air and Space Museum and the National Museum of American History. Visit the Library of Congress and see the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.
Culture
Washington DC is home to four major sports teams, the NFL's Redskins, NHL's Capitals, NBL's Wizards and MLB's Nationals.
Television plays a big part in the culture also, with shows like Bones being filmed in the District and the Disney sitcom Cory in the House uses a backdrop of the city. Series such as The West Wing and Commander in Chief are fictional stories based on the government and security of the District.
