Wanda Sykes is an American actress, comedienne and writer. Most recently she can be seen as Barb on the CBS sitcom The New Adventures of Old Christine and has appeared in such films as Monster in Law and Evan Almighty.

Early Career

After graduating college from Hampton University, Sykes discovered her standup abilities when she entered a contest in Washington DC in 1987 and soon began performing at local venues. From there she decided to move to New York City where she landed her first big break, opening for Chris Rock at Caroline's Comedy Club. By 1997 she joined The Chris Rock Show as a writer and has since acted on Curb Your Enthusiasm as well as her own show Wanda at Large. In 2004 she wrote the book Yeah, I Said It about her outlook on various topics.
