Walter Mondale
Walter Frederick Mondale was the vice president under Jimmy Carter from 1977 to 1981. In 1984, Mondale ran for president and selected Geraldine Ferraro as his running mate. Ferraro was the first female candidate for vice-president candidate, followed by John McCain's choice of Sarah Palin in 2008.
