Volkswagen premiered the new VW Gold TDI Hybrid at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show. The hybrid will be equipped with a 74-horsepower 3-cylinder diesel engine and get an estimated 69.9 miles per gallon.1 In addition, the car's estimated 90 g/km emission of carbon dioxide is 14 grams per kilometer lower than the Toyota Prius.1 Volkswagen expects the car to be available in Europe as early as 2009.2 There are currently no plans to sell the vehicle in the United States.

Capabilities
A regenerative braking system will help to charge the hybrid's NiMH battery. The Golf TDI Hybrid will also feature an automatic start/stop system that cuts off the engine when the vehicle is stationary. When traveling at low speeds, the TDI Hybrid will run in a full-electric mode.
