Vince Carter is an All-Star Forward-Guard for the New Jersey Nets and considered one of the most exciting and creative offensive players in the National Basketball Association. In 1999, he was named the NBA Rookie of the Year and in 2000 won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. He has been elected to the NBA All-Star team eight times and has a two time All-NBA selection. During his stays with the Toronto Raptors and the New Jersey Nets he has enjoyed tremendous individual success, but has been unable to elevate his team to significant post-season success.

Early Life

Vince Lamar Carter was born in Daytona Beach, Florida on January 26, 1977. He attended Mainland High School, where he was touted as a highly coveted prospect and a McDonald's All-American. He would later attend college at the University of North Carolina and establish himself as one of the top players at the college level.

Pro Career

Carter was selected with the fifth pick in the 1998 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors, but then was immediately traded to the Toronto Raptors for fellow University of North Carolina teammate Antawn Jamison. He would establish himself as an elite player winning the NBA Rookie of the Year Award. In 2000, he would be selected to his first All-Star Game, and during All-Star Weekend would win the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. In the years following he would continue his All-Star caliber play and become the Raptors franchise player. In 2004, frustrated with the team's mediocre play Carter demanded and was granted a trade to the New Jersey Nets for centers Alonzo Mourning, Aaron Williams, and forward Eric Williams.
