Guide Note
The University of Utah football team plays college football as a member of the Mountain West conference. Known by their nickname, the Utes, the team plays their home games at Rice-Eccles Stadium on campus in Salt Lake City. This stadium was used for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2002 Winter Olympics. The team has won 23 conference championships, most recently in 2004.

Utah built their reputation in football prowess while a member of the Western Athletic Conference. They were one of the teams that led to the formation of the Mountain West Conference. Among the players that have helped build the Utah football program are Manny Fernandez, Jamal Anderson, Roy Jefferson, Steve Smith, Alex Smith, Bob Trumpy, Kevin Dyson and Larry Wilson. The school has appeared in bowl games seven of the last nine years, including five straight appearances.
