United Front for Democratic Change

The United Front for Democratic Change, or FUC, is an alliance of eight Chadian rebel groups. They are unified by a common opposition of the presidency of Idriss Deby and have been waging war against the national government since 2005. Deby has accused the Sudan and Omar al-Bashir of supplying financial, military, and media support to the rebels, as well as pushing the Darfur conflict across the Chad border as a means of destabilizing the Chadian government. al-Bashir has repeatedly denied these charges. A Human Rights Watch report released in May, 2007, alleges that the FUC has mobalized more than 1,000 child soldiers.
