USB

USB or Universal Serial Bus is a very common port found on most computers that offers fast speed and high compatibility. Virtually all modern computers have at least one USB port.

History

USB technology was originally introduced in 1995 as a means to all multiple devices connect to computers or each other using a uniform connector. The first version, USB 1.0, allowed a maximum speed of 1.5Mbps to 12Mbps. A second version, USB 2.0, was released in 2000 allowing a maximum speed of 480Mbps. A USB 3.0 version is currently in the works and is expected to be available to consumers in 2009 or 2020. USB 3.0 will allow ten times the speed of USB 2.0, a maximum of 4.8Gbps.
