After years as a Division I-AA team, the Huskies football team decided to jump up to the top level of college football in 2000. They played as an independent until they officially joined the Big East in 2004. The Huskies have played in two bowl games, including the 2007 Meineke Car Care Bowl. Some of the players that played at UConn in the past include Nick Giaquinto, Dan Orlovsky and Brian Kozlowski. Current Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz played at UConn as well.
