Guide Note: TurboTax is a tax preparation software package and online service owned by Intuit. TurboTax is designed to walk users step-by-step through the tax preparation process, helping them complete and file accurate federal and state income tax returns.

TurboTax is part of the IRS' Free File Alliance, which allows qualified tax payers to use TurboTax's basic software package to file their federal income tax returns for free.

TurboTax releases a new version of its software in mid-November of every year.
