Tupac Shakur was a major west coast rapper from the early to mid 90s. On September 7, 1996, Shakur was a victim of a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he was shot four times. He died six days later. He was previously a member of the influential Bay Area Rap group Digital Underground.

Life and Career

Tupac Shakur was born in Harlem, New York. His mother was a member of the Black Panther Party. A number of the people in Shakur's family and immediate surroundings had struggled with the law in some form or another; his godfather was convicted of murder, and his stepfather was once an FBI most wanted fugitive.

Shakur found a passion for performance at a young age and attended Baltimore School for the Arts when his family moved to Maryland. He began his career as a rapper in the 90s and began to stir up controversy because of his explicit lyrics that often invoked violent images. Eventually, Shakur became involved in a few legal battles and spent time in prison for being convicted of sexual assault.

Shakur was shot on September 7, 1996. His albums have sold over 75,000,000 worldwide.
