Toulouse is the fourth largest city in France. It is the capital of the Midi-Pyrénées region. As noted by Frommer's, the city is the country's "high-tech center of the aerospace industry." It is home to two major aircraft makers: Airbus and Aérospatiale. Toulouse has been the headquarters of the National Center for Space Research for over 30 years.1

2008 Tour de France
Toulouse is the arrival town for stage eight and the departure town for stage nine of the 2008 Tour de France. The 2008 Tour will mark Toulouse's 26th time as a stage town.3 Cyclists will start stage eight in Figeac and trek 172.5 kilometers to the city. Stage nine is the "first major mountain stage" of the Tour. Bikers start the 224-kilometer journey in Toulouse and will arrive in Bagnères-de-Bigorre about six hours later.4
