Tootsie Roll Industries was founded in 1896 by an Austrian immigrant who named his new candy after his daughter's nickname of "Tootsie." That candy, a chewy, chocolaty treat was sold for a penny each. The company was first known as The Sweets Company of America. Two of their main products are Tootsie Rolls and Tootsie Pops, but the company also produces other candies it has acquired over its over 100-year existence.
