Meier has remained in the media spotlight, urging parents to keep a close eye on their children's activities on the internet. Both Tina and Ron Meier, Megan's father, have been pushing for tougher laws against cyber bullying. Tina Meier has established an organization called the Megan Meier Foundation which helps to educate children and teens about cyber-bullying.

On May 15, 2008, a federal grand jury in Los Angeles returned an indictment against 49-year-old Lori Drew in the case. Prosecutors said Drew and others created a phony MySpace account under the name "Josh Evans." After "Evans" began taunting Meier over the Internet, the girl became distraught and hanged herself on October 15, 2006.
