Thrush
Thrush is a fungal infection that occurs iin the mouth or on the genitals. The culprit is the Candida fungus. It naturally occurs on the human body but begins to multiply excessively during infection. Usually this excessive growth would be limited by the body's natural pH balance or by fought off by the immune system. Thrush is more common in people with compromised immune systems, newborns and older individuals.1

Symptoms
Oral thrush develops in painful, white patches usually on the tongue and inner cheeks. Pain while swallowing, a sensation of food being trapped in the esophagus and fever are common symptoms when the infection spreads to the esophagus.3
Treatment
Nystatin liquid and cream is often used to treat thrush in infants. In adults a local antifungal or antifungal pills are often used.1
