Theodore Roosevelt

Theodore Roosevelt was the 26th President of the United States. During his administration, he worked to breakup illegal corporate trusts and monopolies. He was instrumental in establishing Panama's independence from Colombia, and the subsequent building of the Panama Canal. He was noted outdoors man, an worked to establish national parks throughout the United States.

Square Deal

Roosevelt sought to mediate a compromise between the power and influence of big business, and the needs of the average American citizen. The square deal sought to dissolve monopoly enterprises, and provide greater legal recourse for labor unions. Roosevelt earned the nickname "Trust Buster", for his work in breaking up trusts. He also acted as a champion of the average citizen by standardized railroad rates, and the regulation of food and drugs.
