The War Within

Washington Post associate editor Bob Woodward's book, The War Within, alleges that the United States spied on Iraqi leaders after conquering Baghdad and that the troop surge ordered by George W. Bush was not the main factor behind the drop in violence in the wartorn country.¹

Allegations in Book

Woodward also writes in the book that Bush privately believed that the U.S. strategy of training Iraqi troops to take over after a new government was in place was failing, and that the President began to become detached from the war, handing most of the responsibility off to national security advisor Stephen Hadley.²
