The Soloist
Based on a true story, The Soloist is a 2008 dramatic film starring Robert Downey Jr. as Steve Lopez, a Los Angeles Times columnist. Lopez befriends a homeless musician named Nathaniel Ayers (played by Jamie Foxx), who suffers from schizophrenia. The two become friends, inspiring Lopez to write a series of columns about Ayers.1
The film depicts Lopez's struggle to help Ayers, and the impact Ayers' musical talents have on Lopez's life.2
