The Joy Luck Club is a romance/drama movie released in 1993 which was based on a novel with the same title written in 1989 by Amy Tan. The plot involves four Chinese families who immigrated to the United States and focuses on the cross-generational relationships between immigrant mothers and their American daughters.

Like the novel, the movie was highly praised for its complex narrative style which jumped between various characters, family, and time periods as well as its portrayal of tradition, history, and identity in immigrant families.
