Background
The Fountain was directed by acclaimed director Darren Aronofsky who directed the critically acclaimed film Requiem for a Dream which starred Jennifer Connelly and earned an Oscar nomination for Ellen Burystyn. The Fountain was originally set to star Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett in 2002. Just before filming would begin, Pitt would leave the project due to creative differences, forcing the movie to collapse. In 2005, Aronofsky would bring back the project this time with the cast of Hugh Jackman and Academy Award winner and real life wife Rachel Weisz. The film was considered ambitious and complicated which may have contributed to it's mixed reviews, and it's modest $10,046,093 at the U.S. Box Office.
