The Bachelorette
DeAnna Pappas was the final woman standing in the reality television show The Bachelor finale and was rejected by Brad Womack when he was unable to commit his life to her. During an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, it was suggested by DeGeneres that Pappas should be the next bachelorette on the show of the same name. ABC executives picked up on that suggestion and surprised Pappas on the talk show Ellen with the announcement that she was ABC's season four bachelorette.

Previous Bachelorettes
All the bachelorettes chosen for the reality show have been fan favorites on previous Bachelor shows.
- Season 1: Trista Rehn, runner-up on season one. She married her bachelor Ryan Sutter in 2003 and have a son Maxwell Alston. They are the only success story from The Bachelorette.
- Season 2: Meredith Phillips chose her bachelor Ian Mckee but they are no longer together.
- Season 3: Jennifer Schefft was chosen by the season three bachelor Andrew Firestone. They were engaged but that relationship ended. As the bachelorette she chose Jerry, but in the end rejected his marriage proposal.
