The First Thanksgiving
The Thanksgiving most Americans believe to be the origin of the holiday took place in 1621, when after a bountiful harvest in a land that had been hard on many of the settlers, the pilgrims decided to give thanks with a feast. They celebrated the harvest with their Native American neighbors, the Wampanoag tribe.2
