Teriyaki

Teriyaki is a cooking technique used in Japanese cuisine, wherein the food is broiled or grilled in a sweet soy sauce marinade. In most cultures other than Japanese, any food made with teriyaki sauce is called by the name teriyaki. Examples are teriyaki chicken and steak.

The Teriyaki burger was created by Mos Burger (a Japanese chain) in 1973. The burger's sweet flavor is achieved by pouring tare into the bread and adding lettuce. McDonald's restaurants in Hong Kong serve a Shogun Burger in which the beef patty is coated in teriyaki sauce. Burger King has its own version called the Whopper Teriyaki. Teriyaki burgers are also a popular item at restaurants in Hawaii.
