Earthquake Proof
The Taipei 101 was built to withstand earthquakes and typhoons. Inside the tower, located on the between the 92nd and 88th floors, is a tuned mass damper. The damper, which weighs 660 metric tons, acts like a pendulum. If the building begins to sway in an earthquake, the damper will offset the movement.
