National Treasure: Portrait of Stephen
On January 10, 14, and 15, 2008, The Colbert Report aired a series called National Treasure: Portrait of Stephen. In the three-part series, Colbert attempted to convince Brent Glass, director of the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, to display the talk show host's portrait. When Glass refused, Colbert took the portrait to the National Portrait Gallery, where he convinced the gallery director, Marc Pachter, to hang the picture. The portrait was hung next to the America’s Presidents exhibit, outside the second-floor bathrooms, above the water fountain.
