According to the NPA's website, the crisis means that farmers are losing approximately 26 pounds per pig that they rear and that the industry could lose as much as 200 million pounds over the next year.

NPA general manager Barney Kay says that Stand By Your Ham is a "tongue in cheek way of raising awareness of a serious issue. Put simply, farmers need to receive more for their pigs or they will face the prospect of going out of business." Fast Facts:
