Stacey Stites

Stacey Stites, a 19 year old from Texas was brutally murdered in April of 1996. Stites was found strangled with her own belt, and was left on the side of a road. Rodney Reed was convicted and sentenced to death for the murder in 1998. Reed appealed the verdict and the trial, and the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals began reviewing new evidence on March 12, 2008. Reed has always claimed that he was innocent. He also claims that he and Stites were secretly dating. His DNA was found in Stites body. Reeds' attorneys claim former police officer Jimmy Fennell Jr., who was Stites fiancee at the time, is the real killer. Fennell was fired from The Georgetown Police Department in December of 2007. He was charged with aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping, and improper sexual activity with a person in custody. Reed hopes to be exonerated.
