Spudware

Spudware is a colloquial term for cutlery made of 80% potato starch and 20% soy oil. They biodegrade in about 180 days and are considered environmentally preferable to plastic utensils. They are sturdy enough to be able to use them in the microwave or to eat hot soup. They look and feel like cutlery made of plastic, being able to be used more than one time. If it is left in water for a long period of time, it does become sticky or tacky to the touch.

Disposing of Spudware

Although Spudware is biodegradable, it must be processed at high temperatures through a commercial compost facility. Placing the cutlery in a compost pile will not allow for the high temperature and it will not biodegrade as stated.
