Spirit Photography

Spirit Photography is the idea that cameras, whether film or digital, have the ability to somehow capture images of spirits, ghosts or other supernatural beings that are otherwise invisible to the human eye. The plot 2008 film, Shutter starring Joshua Jackson and Rachael Taylor revolves around this theme.

Fast Facts:

1. Spirit Photography began around 1861 when William H. Mumler photographed himself and discovered a "ghost" in the photo with him
2. Mumler later charged people to experience seance/photography sessions. He was exposed as a fraud in 1872 in the courts.
3. Mumler often used a double exposure method to make his fake ghostly photographs for paying customers
