Spider-Man 4
Nikki Finke reported on her blog Deadline Hollywood Daily that Sony Pictures had signed director Sam Raimi and actor Tobey Maguire to Spider-Man 4 and Spider-Man 5. The two films will reportedly shoot simultaneously, since the scripts (written by Zodiac screenwriter Jamie Vanderbilt) "included a story arc that encompassed two films."1 2
Maguire played Spider-Man in the first three films, and will reprise his role as the superhero. Finke stated that there was no deal in place yet for Kirsten Dunst, who portrayed Spider-Man's love interest in all three movies, Mary Jane Watson. According to Finke, Sony will not recast her role.1
When questioned about participating in the upcoming Spider-Man films in an MTV interview, Dunst immediately said "I'm in." She refused "to make the announcement official," but previously stated that the only way she would do more sequels is if Raimi and Maguire worked on them as well.3
It is not yet known which villain will be antagonizing Spider-Man in the fourth and fifth installments, but Finke speculated it could be The Lizard, based off of actor Dylan Baker's character Curt Connors in both the second and third Spider-Man films.1
Spider-Man 4 and possibly 5 are scheduled to start shooting in 2009.1
