Sinn Fein

Guide Note: Sinn Fein is the largest nationalist Irish Republican political party in Northern Ireland, and the political wing of the Irish Republican Army. The original group was formed as a political movement in 1905, by Arthur Griffith and Edward Martyn. Griffith and Martyn's goal was to re-establish dual monarchy. Sinn Fein became an Irish political party in 1970 whose purpose has been to re-unify The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland and to put an end to British rule. Sinn Fein has now become a recognized political party in The Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and in the United Kingdom. The goals of the Sinn Fein party have grown over the years and the policies of the party are no longer just the re-establishment of dual monarchy.
