On September 10, 2007, former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was deported from Pakistan after returning from a seven year exile. Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf ordered police commandos to carry out the deportation just four hours after Sharif's plane arrived.

2008 Elections

On November 25, 2007, Sharif was permitted to return to Pakistan and resume political activities. On election day, the PML won 65 seats in the Punjab Assembly, marking a resurgence for the PML and Sharif in Pakistani politics.¹
