August 2008: Multiple law enforcement agencies launched an operation to remove sprawling crops of marijuana from California's Sequoia National Forest. Plants numbering in the hundreds of thousands are believed to be cultivated mostly by illegal immigrants on behalf of Mexican drug cartels.
