Laci Peterson's Murder and the Trial
Four months after she vanished from her Modesto, California home, Laci Peterson's remains were discovered in the San Francisco Bay. The remains of her nearly full-term baby, Connor, were found a few miles away. Scott Peterson claimed he was fishing alone on December 24, 2002— the day his wife disappeared. Peterson was later arrested and charged with two counts of murder. Peterson's lengthy 2004 trial included testimony from his former girlfriend, Amber Frey. The massage therapist was a star witness for prosecutors, who claimed Peterson might have killed his wife to pursue a relationship with Frey. Jurors eventually convicted Peterson and in 2005, a judge sentenced him to death. Peterson continues to maintain his innocence in the case.2 6
