Scientology Operating Thetan Documents
Purported to be a complete collection of secret material from the
Church of Scientology written by founder L. Ron Hubbard, the
Scientology Operating Thetan Documents were posted as a
PDF on
WikiLeaks, March 24, 2008. According to notes by the anonymous submitter, members of the Church of Scientology normally pay thousands of dollars for access to the information.
The documents concern "body thetans," a term that TIME has reported to refer to "clusters of spirits (or "thetans") who were banished to earth some 75 million years ago by a cruel galactic ruler named Xenu." While the Church of Scientology has denied that its belief system contains such ideas, these documents do make reference to both.
