Life and Career

Sam Rockwell was born in Daly City, California to actor parents who divorced by the time he was five. He spent the rest of his upbringing in San Franciso with his father, though he visited his mother in New Your City during vacations.

He spent the 1990s gaining moderate success in bit parts, but his career reached a turning point in 1996 when he starred in Tom DiCillo's Box of Moon Light, which made the independent film community take notice.

He continued to gain recognition as he took on supporting roles in bigger budget Hollywood feature films and was offered one of his biggest roles in George Clooney's 2002 directorial debut Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.

Recently he has starred opposite Nicolas Cage in Matchstick Men and opposite Brad Pitt in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

In the fall of 2008, he is slated to appear in the lead role in Choke, a film based on a novel by Chuck Palahniuk.
