Salomon Torres

Salomon Torres is a former Major League Baseball pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers. Torres announced his retirement on November 11, 2008 after 12 seasons.¹

Career

Torres originally signed as an undrafted amateur free agent with the San Francisco Giants on September 15, 1989. After spending his first few seasons with the Giants minor league affiliates, Torres was called up to make his MLB debut on August 29, 1993.²

Torres continued with the Giants for the next two years, until he was traded to the Seattle Mariners on May 21, 1995. Torres split the next two years between the Mariners and their minor league teams, then was waived in early 1997.²

On April 18, 1997, Torres was claimed off of waivers by the former Montreal Expos. He played 12 games with the Expos in 1997, before taking the next four years off from professional baseball. Torres spent those years coaching baseball in the Dominican Republic.²

On December 30, 2001, Torres signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates as a free agent. He split the 2002 and 2003 seasons between the major and minors, before earning a full roster spot with the Pirates in 2004. Torres played 84 games with the Pirates in 2004, pitching 92 innings and finishing with a career best 2.64 earned runs average.²

Following three more seasons with the Pirates, Torres was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers on December 7, 2007. He started the 2008 season as a full member of the Brewers roster and finished the year with a career-high 28 saves.
