History

Sacramento was a major point of distribution during the California Gold Rush in the late 1880's. It was the central terminal for stagecoaches, wagon trains, riverboats the telegraph, the Pony Express and the First Transcontinental Railroad. Sacramento officially became the state capital of California in 1879. The capital building was designed to look like the United States Capitol in Washington DC. The building was completed in 1874.
