Robert William Custer II was taken into custody after leading authorities on a multi-state manhunt on June 16, 2008, having allegedly abducted his 4-year-old son from his ex-girlfriend. The pair were found in Giles County, Virginia, and the boy, Colin Nathaniel Custer, was reported to be safe. Police believe Custer had kidnapped the child, along with the boy's mother, the previous day in Ocala, Florida. The mother, Renee Pennell-Rashell, was found locked in a gas station bathroom in Lexington, South Carolina.1

The Abduction
An Amber Alert was issued for Colin Nathaniel Custer after the child's mother, Renee Pennell-Rashell, was found locked in a gas station bathroom. Pennell-Rashell reportedly told police that Robert William Custer II was her ex-boyfriend, and that he'd kidnapped her and their son after a court-ordered visitation on Sunday, June 15, 2008.
