Red Stripe is a Jamaican lager-style beer, recognizable for its distinctive bottle and crisp taste. The first Red Stripe was brewed in 1928. In 2001, Red Stripe launched a successful advertising campaign, with the slogan "Hooray Beer!" The advertisements kept with the beer's image as an easy-going style of beer. The current lager form of the beer was first produced in 1938, and the beer's main brewery was first opened in Hunt's Bay, Jamaica in 1958. The beer is 4.7% alcohol by volume.

History

Red Stripe was originally a soft drink maker, founded in Kingston, Jamaica in 1918. The first Red Stripe beer was brewed as an ale in 1928, and the current formulation was developed in 1938. Red Stripe beer was first imported to the United States in 1985. The beer is currently distributed by Guinness USA. It is brewed in Jamaica and bottled in Stamford, Connecticut.
