Red Auerbach was a long time coach, general manager and president of the Boston Celtics NBA team. He won 939 games in his professional career and is a member of the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame.1

Head Coach Of The Celtics
Auerbach spent two seasons coaching the Washington Capitols of the BAA and one season with the Tri-City Blackhawks. In 1950, he took over as head coach of the Celtics. Over the next sixteen seasons he led the Celtics to nine world championships, including eight straight from 1959 to 1966.4 In 1967, Auerbach became general manager of the Celtics, choosing Bill Russell as his replacement as head coach.5

Auerbach continued to bring championships to Boston, as the Celtics won in 1968, 1969, 1974, 1976, 1981, 1984 and 1986.5In 1969, Auerbach was inducted into the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame as a coach.6
Author Of Several Books
Auerbach is the author or co-author of several books. His first, Basketball for the Player, the Fan and Coach, is the highest selling basketball book in print.5 His other books include Red Auerbach: An Autobiography, Red Auerbach On and Off the Court, M.B.A.: Management by Auerbach and Let Me Tell You A Story.
