In 2001, at the age of 18, MinKoff launched a clothing line, but a request from her good friend Jenna Elfman to create a bag for her next movie, shifted her focus to handbags. Her signature bag, The Morning After Bag (a play on the idea of the modern day woman who needs a bag to carry all the things she may need for a night spent somewhere other than in her own bed), was a huge success. A line of women's clothing still exists but is no longer the designer's main emphasis.

The celebrities who have been spotted with a Minkoff in hand include Sarah Jessica Parker, Hilary Duff, Bijou Phillips, Jessica Alba, Nicole Richie, and Debra Messing.
