Rashes

Rashes are changes in the skin that are caused by many different reasons including allergies and can affect one or all parts of the body.

Causes

Contact dermatitis is a common cause of rashes which causes redness, itching, blisters and burning where you have touched the irritant such as in the case of poison ivy. You can also get rashes from food allergies or any other type of allergy. Some rashes if combined with a fever can be a sign of a more serious illness.

Rash Care

Most rashes will go away without medical treatment. Home care can help relieve the symptoms until the rash goes away such as wearing cotton clothing and keeping the affected area moist and cool. Avoid the sun as heat will make the rash itch worse. Avoid scratching a rash which can lead to infection. Calamine lotion or 1% hydrocortisone cream can be helpful for a rash. Taking a antihistamine can also provide relief from a rashes itching.
