Ray began as a food buyer for a market in Albany. Ray turned the job into the position of chef. As a way to increase grocery sales during the holidays, Ray began a series of cooking classes, which later evolved into her "30-Minute Meals." Her classes became so popular that the local media sent a feature reporter to cover the phenomenon, and the following week, an Albany TV station asked Ray to do a weekly "30 Minute Meals" segment for the evening news.
Cancer Scare
On October 3, 2008, Ray denied that she had a throat cancer scare. Rumors circulated that Ray was going into the hospital for treatment, but the celebrity chef stated that while she is going in for minor surgery in December 2008, the cyst is benign and she will be able to recover fully.3
